Welcome back. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. We have just over 3 weeks before our next break. It’s going to be a busy time! Here’s a look at what we have going on this week:
Math: Problem solving (two-step within 20) Reading/Language Arts: Key details of informational text Writing: Informational writing (topic of choice) Science: Completing Energy and beginning Forces (pushes and pulls) *We are collecting recycled materials for an upcoming STEM project. We’re looking for cardboard boxes, tissue boxes, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, plastic cartons, etc. If you send in any plastic cartons that have had milk or juice in them, please rinse them out before sending in. Thank you! *We have ILC on Friday. Remember your books. *As the weather is starting to cool down, please make sure your child dresses appropriately! *Tuesday December 6th is our Performing Arts field trip. These permission slips went home at the beginning of the year and have already been returned. We will be going to the Cobb Civic Center to see The Nutcracker ballet. Please have your child wear their maroon Tritt shirt!

Thank you for all the items donated for the food drive. As a class, we donated 46 items. What a great lesson to teach our children. Today we celebrated Veteran's Day by researching, "What is Veteran's Day? Why and how do we celebrate?" and we listened to a Veteran share about his job and service. We even saw and sampled their food they eat while on duty. Ask your child all about it! Information:

We had a great time watching The Boxcar Children movie and enjoying snacks from the vending machine and me. We also enjoyed Pirate Booty and a lollipop from the PTA for winning the Kindness Award at the Dash.

The Tritt Tiger Dash on Friday afternoon was a great success! The kids had a GREAT time. Thank you to everyone who came out to help and to cheer us on! We will watch a movie, have popcorn, and a trip to the vending machine on Friday. More information will come next week. *In honor of Halloween on Monday, we will be “Going Batty”. Remember to return all ILC books to choose new ones on your level! *Author Diane Shore is coming to visit Tritt on Thursday! Conference week is next week! We will have an early release schedule all week. Lunch will be from 11:25-11:45 Please remember your conference time and knock on the door when it is your turn. Twenty minutes goes by quickly so in order to stay on schedule, you can knock and open the door at the time of your conference. If for some reason you need to reschedule at the last minute, let me know so I can adjust my schedule accordingly. I will share your child's report card with you, as well as talk about strengths and weaknesses. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have questions. Math: Addition within 100 using base-ten blocks (BTB) Reading/Language Arts: Author's Purpose and Character point of views Writing: Letters to the troops (The Bert Show’s Big Thank You) Social Studies: James Oglethorpe and Tomochichi *Our first collection day for the Tiger Dash is Monday October 17th! Please send in all collection envelopes. Please DO NOT seal the envelopes. Thank you for your continued support! All 2nd grade classes have the same incentives for the Tiger Dash. They are as follows…. Level 1 ($525 raised as a class) – Extra recess with popsicles! Level 2 ($1,050 raised as a class) – Lunch in the classroom with a movie! Level 3 ($1,575 raised as a class) – No homework for a week! Level 4 ($2,100 raised as a class) – PJ and game day! *On Friday we had a chance to stop by the Media Center to preview the Fall Book Fair. Your child made a list of books he or she thought looked interesting. These lists were sent home in their orange folders. Come check out the book fair next week while you're here for conferences! Your child may also bring money to school and will be able to visit the book fair in the morning before announcements. (There are lots of posters and knick-knacks by the register, so make sure your child knows what he/she should spend the money on!) *Square 1 Art order forms came home this week. We are wrapping up the first quarter of second grade. How is it already this time? Information for this week: - On Friday, we will have our Tiger Dash kick off. Please have your child wear their Tritt shirt. -Look for emails about the Dash and please raise money for Tripp PTA. Remember all of the money raised stays at Tritt and a portion comes directly to me to buy items for our classroom. -On Friday we will visit the Book Fair to preview the books available. Your child will bring home a list of books they like to make it a little easier for them to purchase them on their own the following week. -The Book Fair will be open during conference week. Book Fair Hours: : Mon-Thurs: 7:20-7:50 am Mon & Tues: 12:20-6:00 pm Weds & Thurs: 12:20-4:00 pm What are we learning in 302? Reading: We will read information text about Sequoyah to identify the purpose of the text (what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe) Writing: we will finish our personal narrative for first quarter Math: We will review place value to 1,000 and look at telling time. Word Work: We will learn to use commas correctly when writing letters. We will write letters to the troops for the Bert's Big Thank You. If you would like to write a letter to send in with ours, we would love extras. Just send them in with your child. r-controlled -we'll focus on r-controlled a syllable patterns (shark) Content: We will finish our unit on Creeks, Cherokees and Sequoya Enjoy your fall break!
Over fall break, please take a picture of your child doing something and send it in with them on Monday. It can be something they did on vacation or just them relaxing in their pjs. Our Safety Village field trip will be Wednesday, October 5th. What are we Learning in 302 the week after break? Reading: We will ask and answer questions as we read about the Creek and Cherokee Indians and Sequoya. Writing: We will write our final narrative for quarter 1 using a strong beginning, sensory details, and a closure. Math: Graphing Content: Creeks, Cherokees, and Sequoya Word Work: Long i digraph syllable patterns (pie, night) This week we made class posters and attended a pep rally to pump us up for next Tuesday’s Kickball game! Next Friday we will be going to the ILC for our lesson. Don’t forget to bring your library books!
