I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day and I hope you liked the art project we worked on for your special day!

This will be our last BLOG. I'm still teaching and your child is still learning up until the last day. There are a lot of dates and deadlines approaching. Below you'll find the important dates. If I left one off, I'll email..

Important Information for the END of the Year!
Tomorrow we are taking the end of the year Math Student Learning Objective test. Please have your child to school on time. Thank you!
  • All ILC books are due this Wednesday
  • Scholastic orders are due this Friday so we can receive the books before the end of the year.
  • Array projects are due this Friday
  • Filed Day is this Friday from 9-11. Your child can wear a hat, bring a water bottle, and should wear sunscreen (Our lunch will be from 12:37-1:07)
  • Book Reports will be presented on 5-20
  • We will have an end of the year ice cream celebration on 5-20
  • 5/23 we’ll have Charlotte’s Web rotations with all of second grade
  • 5/24 and 5/25 are early release.
  • We’ll have a second grade award ceremony, year book signing, and celebrate the kids that made the 200 Book Club on 5/24 

Summer reading cards are coming home today, Monday. Last year Tritt won for elementary schools. Make your your child reads this summer and logs their minutes.

How is it already May?
 
Reading: novel study on Charlotte’s Web focusing on using context clues to decode the meaning of unknown words
 
Writing: writing an opinion piece on our Georgia Hero, Jimmy Carter
 
Math: Beginning our unit on arrays to help us add and multiply
 
Content: completing our unit on life cycles
 
STEM: Beginning a new STEM challenge. Please send in any clean recyclables
 
Additional Information:
  • This week we’ve challenged our second graders to going SCREEN FREE all week. Look inside your child’s folder for more information.
  • Help your child choose a chapter book to begin reading at home that is new and interesting to them. This month your child will be doing a book report on a chapter book of choice. I’ve blocked out a whole week of homework to focus on the report.
  • If you purchased a yearbook, please bring it back into school tomorrow. PTA is coming around to add the name of the artist of the cover.
  • Field Day is May 13th
