What are we learning? Reading- finishing our unit on rhythm and rhyme in fictional stories and how they provide meaning to the story -reviewing the structure of a story through Thanksgiving fictional stories Writing- Informational Writing- completing our draft on our famous person of choice with our research collected, editing and revising, and typing our final draft Math- 2-step word problems using our problem solving steps and working on fluency with our subtraction facts to 20 Science- completing our unit on energy STEM-finishing our Mary Musgrove trading post item and writing an explanation of our item and how it’s used (information writing) Scholastic Order- If you're interested in ordering you have until the 30th to ensure delivery before the holidays.

What are we learning in 504?
Reading/Language Arts: Describe how words and phrases supply rhythm and meaning in a fictional story, poem, or song Math: Using an open number line to find differences up to 100 Writing: Working on collecting our own research on a famous person with at least 2 sources and write our first draft on our informational writing about our person Science: This week we’re talking about energy. We’ll learn about sources of light, heat, and motion energy and how they are used. STEM: We will create and improve our object to trade at Mary Musgrove’s trading post. The following week we will use our plans to create and improve upon our object. Students should be trying to collect their materials with their group from home. All items must be recyclable. Important Information: -Week of November 9th – Food drive for St. Ann’s. The goal is to collect 100 cans per classroom. We figured out that if we each bring 5, we’ll have over 100! -November 2-20 – Collecting gently used jackets to be given to people in need in Cobb County (in the lobby) What are we learning in 504?
Reading/Language Arts: We’re working with nonfiction text and learning about nonfiction text features. Math: Using an open number line to add sums up to 100 Writing: Working on a guided informational writing piece and we’ll begin one on our own topic toward the end of the week Science: This week we’re talking about energy. We’ll learn about sources of light, heat, and motion energy and how they are used. STEM: We will imagine and create plans for using recycled materials to make an object to trade at Mary Musgrove’s trading post made. The following week we will use our plans to create and improve upon our object. The students will be asked to collect their materials over the week, beginning Thursday. Be on the lookout for some odd items written in their agenda. Important Information: *Our guidance counselors have some upcoming donation drives: -Week of November 2nd – Collecting extra Halloween candy (in the lobby) -Week of November 9th – Food drive for St. Ann’s. The goal is to collect 100 cans per classroom. -November 2-20 – Collecting gently used jackets to be given to people in need in Cobb County (in the lobby) *Tritt is participating in Six Flags Read to Succeed program for the 2015-2016 school year. Your child can earn 1 free ticket to Six Flags for 360 minutes of recreational reading between now and February 15. Reminders and the log will also be included in the December, January and February PTA newsletters. *Friday is our ILC day. Please help your child remember their books EVERY FRIDAY. *It’s Healthy Habits Week: -Tuesday- bring a fruit or veggie for snack -Wednesday- We’ll talk about reducing stress and bring home a Fidgit Widgit -Thursday- Extra movement throughout the Day -Saturday- Join fellow Tigers at the Tritt Trot *We'll see our next GA presenter on Tuesday. We met our 4th incentive for a costume party! Yay. I’ve added a 5th incentive- electronic day. Keep raising money to help educate our kiddos at Tritt! Our final count day is this Thursday. Please help your child remember to bring in the envelopes. Also, they may challenge staff members to participate in the Dash. Thank you for your continued support with our PTA Fundraiser.
What are we learning? Reading: identifying the author’s purpose for writing nonfiction text. Is it to explain, answer questions, or describe a person, place, or thing? Writing: finishing our personal narratives Math: Reviewing place value to 1,000 with an emphasis on comparing numbers Social Studies: learning the contributions of Thomochichi and how his life is similar to and different from our life today Word Work: completing prefixes and reviewing all long vowels STEM: We used our knowledge of data collection, creating a graph, and matter to make glue. Ask your child all about it! Donations: Please send in empty paper towel and toilet paper roll as you have them. Baby wipes or hand wipes to clean up STEM and messy assignments would be appreciated. We don’t have a sink in our room so they have been helpful. (We wiped me clean with our glue mixtures today.) Our Dash is this Friday. Come cheer The Woolley Mammoths on from 12:15-1:00. I’m looking forward to seeing you all next week for conferences! Tiger Dash Update! We met our first goal; our class has earned extra recess! Our next count day is this Thursday. Remember to send in your child’s envelope even if they do not have any new additions to their collection. We brought in $974.50 and need a total of 1,100 to reach our next incentive. To meet goal three, we must reach 1,650 and for goal 4 we need to raise $2.200. Keep up the hard work with raising money for our school! Remember that all money collected stays in the school and 10-20% is to be spent on our classroom materials. Reading- completing our unit on identifying the main topic of each paragraph within multi-paragraph text Writing- completing our end of quarter narrative writing by completing our draft, editing, and writing our final draft (focusing on hook and sensory details) Math- continuing to work with counting money -Data Content- Complete our unit on Creeks, Cherokees, and Sequoya Word Work- compound words and prefixes Reminders: -We visit the ILC (media center) every Friday. Please help your child remember to bring their books back on FRIDAY. -Your child should be taking 2 AR test a week (on their media center books) or other books from home. There is no reason they cannot do this with 20 minutes of reading HW a night and checking out 2 books on their AR level each week. -Remember to have your child fill out their 200 Book Club logs with their HW readings. Wednesday is walk/ride to school day. Please have your child wear their blue Tritt shirt tomorrow for the Tritt Tiger Dash Kick Off! Also, check your child’s folder for more information. There will be a collection envelope with detailed instructions on the back. Please read over carefully. Our PTA has worked hard to organize this fundraiser so that our school can keep 100% of the money donated for your child’s education. Please support our fundraiser! Quick note- our specials time has changed due to other grades testing this week. We will go from 9-9:45. Our lunch will remain the same for this week, but will be different next week. I’ll let you know the change in time as it gets closer. In math we are working with coins and bills. We will identify and count groups of coins. We will also apply our problem solving strategies to solve word problems involving money. For HW your child should practice the Understand and Plan & Solve steps. It would be beneficial if you had them explain using their words how they used their strategy to solve the word problems. In reading, we continue to read nonfiction multiparagraph text asking who, what, when, where, why, and how pulling out key details. We are also identifying the main point of each paragraph as well as the main idea of the entire passage. In writing we are going through the writing process writing a personal narrative of choice. We will brainstorm and write a draft this week. In our drafts, we’ll include a hook and sensory details that help paint a picture for the audience. In Word Work we are learning how to appropriately use an apostrophe in contractions and possessive nouns. We’ll review irregular plural nouns before we take an assessment at the end of the week. In content we continue to learn about the regions of GA and the connection to the Creeks, Cherokees, and Sequoya. We will also learn how their government is similar to and different from ours. In STEM will continue to work on our science standard of how about of day light differs with the seasons and its effect on trees. We will imagine, plan, and build a model of the summer tree we observed a few weeks back. We’ll use this model to observe the same tree throughout the school year. Fall is in the air and this will be our last week before fall break. Please help your child remember that we have check out in the ILC on Fridays.
Reading: Identify the main idea of each paragraph with in multi-paragraph text as well as the overall main idea of the passage Writing: Writing a narrative of choice focusing on a small moment to narrow our topics. We'll begin with brainstorming and writing a draft using sensory details to paint a picture in our reader's mind. Later in the week, we'll edit and revise with the help of peers and the teacher to enhance our stories. Word Work: -review all vowels - complete our unit on irregular plurals - begin studying contractions and begin to use them correctly in our writing Science: Take a look at how the amount of day light affects our trees and seasons Social Studies: Continue our unit on the Regions of Georgia Homework for the week: -in addition to the daily math assignments in the agenda, study number words and work on learning to write their address correctly (proper capitalization and spelling) Things to Remember: -Remember to send in your Box Tops for Education this week. We have a collection box in our classroom. -The school store is open this week before school. Service Council will be hosting a POP UP Relay for Life School Store next week.
We are super excited that our Service Council (#kind is the new cool) will be using valuable life skills (in addition to math, speaking, and writing standards) while raising money for American Cancer Society. Our POP up event will occur all of next week from 7:20-7:50 in the annex. We have items of all prices ranges (.25 to $2.00) and our service council students will help your students through the process of shopping, understanding budgets, wants verses needs, supply and demand and making change (sounds like a lot of math J) . |
